Bhaktapur: heritage tourism, pottery trade and fast-growing suburbs

Bhaktapur's economy splits neatly into two halves, and the website you need depends on which half you are in. Inside the old city — Durbar Square, Taumadhi, Dattatreya, Pottery Square — the customer is largely a visitor: day-trippers from Kathmandu, domestic tourists at the weekend, and foreign travellers who research on a phone while walking. Those businesses need very fast pages, clear opening hours, ticket or workshop booking, strong photography and a map pin that survives the narrow-lane addressing problem. We use precise coordinates plus landmark directions rather than street addresses, because 'behind Nyatapola' is what actually gets someone to your door.

The other half is the suburban growth belt: Suryabinayak, Balkot, Katunje, Sipadol, Duwakot, Thimi and Sanothimi. Here the clients are hardware suppliers, private schools, health clinics, furniture showrooms and construction contractors serving a fast-expanding residential population. Their sites are lead machines, not brochures — service pages, price ranges, a short enquiry form and a call button pinned to the bottom of the screen on mobile. Thimi's pottery and ceramics producers sit between the two, selling both to walk-in tourists and to wholesale buyers in Kathmandu.

For both halves, Nepali-language content pulls more weight in Bhaktapur than in Lalitpur or central Kathmandu, so we usually recommend a bilingual build with Devanagari headings. Payment habits skew toward eSewa, Khalti and Fonepay QR, with cash on delivery still common for furniture and hardware. We also add review-collection prompts, because Bhaktapur buyers check Google reviews heavily before travelling out to a showroom.
